Welcome

VW Passat

When it comes to German manufactured cars Volkswagen has generally come in some way behind the upmarket pacesetters BMW, Mercedes and Audi, in the minds of many drivers.  At the same time anyone buying a VW knows that they are getting a good quality car for their money.  The VW Passat is a perfectly acceptable mid-range car with prices ranging from £16,440 to £32,995 on the road.

The VW Passat comes in a range of styles.  Petrol versions are available as 1.4 TSI, 1.8 and 2.0 litre TSI and a 3.2 litre V6.  Diesel variants are the 1.9 TDI and three different bhp versions of the 2.0 litre TDI.  The 138 bhp 2.0 TDI diesels offer the option of four-wheel drive that is also available on the 3.6 V6 petrol version.  Three different body trims are available – S, R Line and Highline.

A positive point of the VW Passat is its performance over long distances.  Acceleration on the 2.0 TDI to 60 mph takes 11.7 seconds, with a maximum speed of 123 mph.  Fuel consumption for the same model is 25.2 mpg for urban driving, 44.8 mpg for non-urban and 34.9 mpg combined.

Design wise the Volkswagen Passat does not really compete with its more expensive rivals but owners will appreciate a number of useful features, including a decent stereo, a 2Zone Climatronic air conditioning system and Bluetooth connectivity for the telephone.

Top of the VW Passat range is the R36 priced at £30,990 - £32,150 on the road.  As would be expected, performance is somewhat increased; this car reaches 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.  Fuel use is therefore heavy with a combined consumption of just 26.4 mpg.
