Welcome

VW Golf Plus

Originally conceived as simply a larger version of the classic Golf, the VW Golf Plus
is a family car for drivers on a low to medium budget.  Priced from £15,015 to £20,530 on the road, it comes in a range of versions.

The range starts with the 1.4 80PS, followed by the more powerful 1.4 TSI with 120PS.  The diesel models offer the choice of a 1.6 engine with 90PS or 105PS and a 2.0 litre with either 110PS or 140PS.

The bottom of the range 1.4 80PS is fairly slow reaching 62 mph in 14.9 seconds.  The 1.4 TSI 120PS will attain the same speed in 10.2 seconds.  The 2.0 diesels will reach 62 mph in 9.8 seconds with a maximum speed of 127 mph.

The VW Golf Plus is certainly not intended for drivers who want to break speed records or fantasize about being a racing driver, but as a family 5-seater it does the job required for that market very well.  As expected, fuel consumption is a definite plus point with the 2.0 TDI achieving 42.8 mpg in urban driving, 64.2 mpg for non-urban and 55.4 mpg combined.

Two trim options are available.  The S model has CD stereo, electric windows and mirrors, plus air conditioning.  The higher end SE in addition has cruise control, park assist and 16” alloy wheels.

Aimed somewhere between a hatchback and an MPV, the VW Golf Plus is a highly serviceable family car.  It is obviously not the car to buy if you want to impress the neighbours and say that you’ve “arrived”, but it will transport you and your family from A to B efficiently and without breaking the bank.
