The house is a relatively new one, built in the late 1980s on the site of a former pub. The garden has been entirely re-modelled since 1996, and now contains an eclectic collection of plants including quite a few raised from seed gathered in places where we have been on holiday. |

We have found that the climate of this part of The Fens is favourable for growing many different plants, including some that are reckoned to be tender or difficult. For example, Echium wildprettii from Tenerife is perfectly happy and will over-winter as long as it is not soggy wet. And it blooms superbly! |

We have also succeeded in flowering, in two successive years, the supposedly difficult Shan lily, Lilium sulphureum. It thrives in a deep pot that contained well-rotted compost. The flowers are sumptuous - cream and reddish brown, and highly perfumed. The original bulbs were a gift from Aung Swe, former curator of Maymyo Botanic Garden in Myanmar (Burma). |
